U.S. IRS to Revoke Passports for Unpaid Taxes | Issue #118

More than a year ago, Congress gave the IRS the right to revoke a US citizen’s passport for nonpayment of delinquent Federal taxes.

Now, over a year later, the IRS has released new details that may pose challenges for relocation professionals. An increased administrative burden and/or the possibility of revocation while abroad can potentially threaten businesses with employees currently on (or planning to accept) assignment in a foreign country.
