Agreement Reached at U.S. West Coast Port
A tentative agreement has been reached between the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) and the Pacific Maritime Association (PMA). The new 5-year agreement still needs to be approved by all local unions, a process that can take several weeks, however, with the tentative agreement in place the work to clear the months’ worth of backlogged containers and vessels has begun.
Industry experts indicate that it will take months for U.S. West Coast Ports to return to “normal” operations; in the meantime expect continued congestion and delays.
