A NIE number (Foreign Identification Number or Número de Identificación de Extranjero) is an identification number for non- residents.

It is used to pay taxes and track your activities while in Spain and is needed to:

– Buy/sell property
– Buy a vehicle
– Inherit assets
– Insure your property
– Pay taxes
– Sign up for the National Social Security or Health Services
