ALERT -- Fraudulent Recruitment Scam
We have been informed that certain unauthorized individuals with no connection to TheMIGroup are purporting to be recruiting candidates for employment at TheMIGroup. These unauthorized individuals, post generic job ads (such as “Administrative Clerk”) on job search websites such as “Craigslist," inviting job seekers to submit applications and/or resumes and contact details. On submission of a resume, the job seeker is instructed to set up an instant messaging site (such as Yahoo Messenger) and to participate in an IM interview, resulting in a fictitious offer of employment at TheMIGroup. As a condition of said supposed employment, the job seeker is instructed to wire money, typically around $450.00, via Western Union or other means to supposedly cover the cost of computer hardware/software they will require for the job. Sometimes, the victim of the scam is told that he or she will be reimbursed for this cost later by TheMIGroup.
Please be advised that any such solicitation, interview, job offer, or request to submit payment for necessary software or other materials is fraudulent, a scam, and should be immediately reported to the relevant authorities. TheMIGroup has no connection with, or relationship to, any such scheme and cautions the public with regard to same.
Be advised further, whenever TheMIGroup posts job opportunities on job search websites (such as, for instance, on Craigslist or Monster.com), it clearly and unmistakably identifies itself in such a manner as to alert all applicants to the fact that TheMIGroup is the prospective employer. Be further advised that TheMIGroup does not conduct interviews via IM or over the internet, and does not require newly hired employees to advance funds for any reason as a condition of employment, including the purchase of hardware/software. Under no circumstances should you forward money to any individual or organization with respect to this scheme.
TheMIGroup has forwarded Cease and Desist letters, informed law enforcement agencies of the scheme, and is currently initiating legal action. If you are a victim of or are aware of this fraudulent scheme or related activity, please immediately inform your local police, and it would be appreciated if you could forward details to TheMIGroup.
